Calm Lab Journey
Calm Lab didn’t start as an organization. It began as a grassroots response to urgent, on-the-ground needs in 2022. At the time, a mental health practitioner with experience in trauma and art began offering emotional support to youth who had been injured, displaced, or deeply affected by Myanmar’s ongoing conflict. These early efforts were informal, volunteer-driven, and deeply personal.
As the need grew, more young people and community leaders reached out, not only for trauma support, but for a way to move forward. By late 2023, a second core team member with a background in youth-centered development joined forces, combining mental health care with life skills and vocational training. Together, they began shaping a holistic, community-based approach to healing and empowerment.
In 2024, these efforts evolved into Calm Lab: a mobile, trauma-informed initiative rooted in lived experience. Calm Lab believes these youth are not broken, they are future changemakers, carrying strength born from survival.
Calm Lab doesn’t begin with recruitment, but with connection. Many youth have been hurt by systems and outsiders. That’s why each new partnership starts with open conversations and awareness sessions, engaging local leaders, rehab centers, and families to build trust and shared understanding.
By the time direct programming begins, the team is no longer a stranger to the community. Calm Lab walks alongside the youth, offering support, tools, and space to heal, grow, and reclaim their futures on their own terms.
Resource Team (Project-Based)
To deliver its programs, Calm Lab works with a pool of trusted professionals on a contract or project basis. This includes:
• Mental Health Trainers
• Licensed Counselors and Psychotherapists
• Vocational Trainers (baking, podcasting, computer, English, sewing, etc.)
• Career and Life Coaches
• Facilitators from partner rehabilitation centers
• Community mentors and peer supporters
These professionals are brought in depending on the specific needs of each training cycle or location.
